Bristol Guild opening day

Birch Trees
The birch tree tapestry finally finished and hung. Took quite a few goes to get the mounting right but I am quite pleased with it now. The photo isn't great though.

Our private view at the Bristol Guild today went very well, despite the rain and wind we had over 120 visitors and lots of positive comments both about our work and the way the exhibition was laid out.
I took quite a few photos but most of them are rubbish hopefully you can get some idea of the gallery space and how it is laid out.
I will try and take some better ones next time I'm there.

Birch trees

Birch trees off the loom and tidied up. A bit flat looking at the moment. Now to work out how to add some depth. Do I attach them to the fixing batten and then try to curve them slightly or do I curve them first and then attach them to the batten?
I should take my own advise and work all this out before I start, though in this case that may not have helped.
First things first go out and buy velcro and batten.
This will be your last look, a preview two months before the rest of the world gets a look in.
Next time they turn up on here will be when the exhibition pictures are taken.
Happy Easter and happy weaving.

Birch trees

My birch trees are at last off the loom. Had a cutting off ceremony all by myself. Now on to the next stage of trimming off and working out how to put them together to create a sense of depth.

Progress birch trees

Although I haven't mentioned my birch tree tapestry in the last week I have actually been making progress. This is the last and main tree near completion. Its hard going to sit inside when its sunny out and the garden beckons.

Birch trees

Progress
Have got about as far up the loom as I can possibly weave, three of the five trees are now finished, one more back ground tree to complete and then on to the main one. Would have liked the trees to have been taller but not possible on the size loom I have. Then again I shall be quite pleased to get this piece finished, there will still be a lot of work to do once it is off loom.

Birch trees and other thoughts

I am still having trouble with my tapestry Birch Trees, the branches still don't look right and now I am getting nearer the top the weaving is getting very tight but I would like it to have a little more length so am struggling to weave at the moment.
I'm feeling a bit despondent with my work at the moment, I haven't been that pleased with the last three pieces I've done. They've all been for exhibitions so maybe its just the extra pressure or maybe its because I'm a little out of my comfort zone.
Though saying that I did really want to do the trees.

Catkins, roots and birch trees

Catkins on my twisted hazel, I love this tree, it also has female flowers so I guess this one doesn't need help from another tree to produce nuts.

A small tapestry I've been weaving in front of the telly. I'm pleased with it very simple with roots of marran grass sewn into it.
I have been weaving as well as wandering round the garden, progress has been achieved. Two of the trees are nearly finished but I am having trouble with the branches, they are only attached to the main warp where they come off the trunk and at the moment look very flat. Thats why I'm not letting anybody see them at the moment, not until I've solved the problem.
