It is time to stop procrastinating, stop reading blog posts, blow away the cobwebs and DO SOME WORK.
I am putting it off, why, because I collected my work from Ilminster on Saturday and hadn't sold anything, not even a card, it lowered my confidence in my work, which is never high in the first place.
I don't specifically produce work to sell but it still feels good when you do and bad when you don't.
Anyway I have to get over it, I am taking part in a pop up gallery which opens in two weeks, so I need to pull my self together and get going.
Oh my, I've been there - many times. Often when I do sell something its not the thing that I thought would be grabbed right up. *smile* Its hard to put yourself and your work out for valuation like that. Continue on -- because each time is different with a different crowd and your work is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYes I guess we all go there quite often, thanks for the support Penny, much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things about being an artist is sometimes the work doesn't sell for whatever reason- bad weather, fickle fashion, lady luck, bad star alignment, there isn't really a rhyme or reason to it, so just put the work away in a safe place or let a close friend or member of the family look after it and save it for that retrospective show in another decade or two!
ReplyDelete& never ever make for what you perceive as "the market", the only art that's worth anything to you or the world is what needs to come out of your hands straight from your heart.
Thanks Mo for your comment, the only thing I make specifically to sell are cards and I guess some of my small hangings but they all come from my heart, they are never made for market appeal or fashion.
DeleteA retrospective there's a thought!
and forgot to say how much I love that photograph!
DeleteI can only agree with what everyone else's said.....and Mo's right; there is no rhyme or reason to it! But yes, it feels disheartening when things don't sell. We can so easily get caught up in worth and value being manifested in financial terms. That's just the external stuff though, isn't it? WE know the quality of our work; what works, what doesn't. And I like your description of them coming from your heart. The heart knows. Keep that close to your heart. XX
ReplyDeleteindeed, the heart knows!
