Read this

I have just finished reading Donna Tartt's The Goldfinch, this is an epic novel, a masterpiece so much more than just a story it takes you through the whole emotive range of human stupidity, cruelty and humanity. The last chapter brought tears to my eyes. The book is beautifully written and has hidden psychological depths, its a must read.

  1. Funny you should mention this ... have it loaded onto my iPad and can't seem to plod along with it very well. Am on page 382 [of 1546] and it's been loaded since last July. Your review makes me want to *keep going* but sometimes the dark bits are hard to move thru. Thanks, Debbie ;>]

    1. I read the whole book in less than a week but I don't sleep very well, I found it really gripping though some sections are a bit overlong. I would like to say it gets lighter and although it does from time to time, there are a lot of dark bits, maybe its just not the right novel for you. If you don't manage it read the second half of the last chapter I found it very moving.

  2. I'm 17th in the queue for this one at the local library, sounds challenging.... did you read The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson 2008? a difficult story (especially the first chapter) yet one of the most beautiful books I have ever read

    1. Its nothing like as dark as The Gargoyle, if you've read that I think you can read anything, that was an amazing book. The Goldfinch is worth waiting for in my opinion, pity we are on different continents I could have lent it to you.

  3. I got this novel from the library - had to renew it 3 times but I loved it. So many levels of life and really hits a lot of the inner stuff ..the doubt and the fears that we push down. I enjoyed it and am glad that you did too. x
