Butterflies

The air is alive with butterflies today, mostly cabbage whites but I just counted six peacocks on the buddleia plus 4 tortoiseshells, and one peacock on my daughter, which took quite a fancy to her shorts. I have also seen quite a few commas and some smaller brown and blue varieties which I don't recognise. I now have more trees in the garden, including three buddleias and a small patch of nettles, so I guess this is attracting them.

  1. Oh, you are so fortunate. We're not getting a lot of butterflies this summer, perhaps due to our never ending rain. We finally saw our first hummingbird the other day. He must have been an intrepid traveler because he's the only one we've seen this summer.

    1. We have had a lot more sun this year than in previous summers which have mostly been wet, so yes we are fortunate this year, I think the butterflies are making up for lost summers. On the other hand I have never seen a hummingbird.

  2. Oh, I wish you could see one -- they are lovely, tiny, busy little things!
